| The Rübenach Lower Hall is a typical example of a living room in a nobleman’s residence around 1450. With its very impressive 500 year old oak beams, imaginative tapestries and valuable paintings, the room is representative of the times and inviting at the same time. Also worth mentioning are the panel paintings, especially the rare work by Lucas Cranach the elder, "Madonna with child and grapes". This painting is only one of six unusual panel paintings in the room, the majority of which are from the Cologne school. The hall was heated by a large fireplace, one of forty in the 100 rooms, which shows that, for the Middle Ages, Eltz castle was the height of comfort. | ![]() |
| The Rübenach Lower Hall was heated by the imposing late Gothic fireplace. The cast iron plate, a special feature, is a very late Gothic piece manufactured in the Eifel in 1537 - actually already into the Renaissance. It heats up, and for hours after the fire is out continues to give out warmth into, the room. As it also acts as a dividing wall with the next room, it is possible to heat two rooms at the same time. | ![]() |
