Banner Hall

The Banner Hall dating from around 1490 with its "Evangelists’ Stove" and the stained-glass window in the corner bay is architecturally the most interesting room in the castle. Its late Gothic vaulted construction is very impressive. The star-ribbed vaulting serves, not only as a support for the ceiling, but also a decoration. It is possible that this room was used as a chapel as vaulting such as this was seldom used in ordinary rooms. The name Banner Hall comes from the late 19th century and banners captured in some of the Franco-German wars were displayed here until 1918. Image

Evangelists’ Stove

A real showpiece, this colourful ceramic stove was produced in southern Germany in 1881. It shows the Eltz coats of arms and the four Evangelists - hence the name "Evangelists’ Stove". It is a copy of a much earlier ceramic stove from the 1540’s which today is on display in the national museum in Nuremberg. Evangelists’ Stove

Stained Glass

This late Gothic stained glass window in the corner bay of the room is of the highest quality. It shows St. George fighting the dragon. He was the patron saint of all Christian knights. Stained Glass
